Design, innovation and sustainability propel VIATT 2026’s expanding role in ASEAN textile sourcing

At its third edition, the Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textiles and Textile Technologies (VIATT 2026) further reinforced its position as a leading textile sourcing platform in ASEAN. The three-day event welcomed over 17,000 visits from 54 countries and regions, featuring more than 460 exhibitors from 21 countries across 18,000 sqm.

The 2026 edition introduced new international pavilions and specialised zones, expanding sourcing opportunities across geographies and product categories. Alongside this, a dynamic fringe programme—headlined by the debut Trend Forum—positioned VIATT as one of the region’s most integrated textile trade fairs, spanning the entire value chain from raw materials to finished products.

Vietnam’s textile industry enters a new growth phase

“This exhibition takes place at a time when Vietnam’s textile and garment industry is entering a new phase of development—shifting from extensive to intensive growth, from contractual manufacturing to higher value-added production, and from traditional production models to green and smart manufacturing,” said Bui Quang Hung of Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency.

He added that VIATT 2026 encourages global brands to transfer technology, share expertise, and support the development of domestic raw material supply chains—strengthening Vietnam’s role in the global textile ecosystem.

Reflecting on the fair’s growth, Wilmet Shea of Messe Frankfurt noted that VIATT continues to expand in both scale and strategic importance.

“With each edition, VIATT has grown not just as a sourcing platform, but as a space where the industry collaborates to shape the future of textiles in ASEAN,” she said. “The fair offers a holistic view of the value chain across multiple textile sectors, underpinned by design, sustainability, and international cooperation.”

Expanded international participation boosts sourcing opportunities

A major highlight of VIATT 2026 was the expansion of international zones. The European Zone featured exhibitors from Italy, Switzerland, Türkiye, and the UK, while the German Pavilion stood out for its focus on high-quality engineering, compliance, and manufacturing excellence.

The debut of the Türkiye Zone further enhanced sourcing diversity, introducing new textile capabilities and strengthening Europe–ASEAN trade connections.

Exhibitors across the value chain reported strong engagement and high-quality buyer interactions.

A representative from Ibena highlighted the growing demand for technical textiles, including flame-retardant fabrics and protective workwear, noting increased connections with both Vietnamese agencies and international buyers operating in the region.

Global brands and suppliers drive international engagement

VIATT 2026 attracted leading global brands such as Inditex, PVH, H&M, and others, reflecting its strong international positioning.

Exhibitors praised the fair’s ability to connect them with buyers from the US, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China. The event’s increasingly global reach highlights Vietnam’s rising importance as a textile sourcing hub.

Participants from Portugal, Indonesia, and Vietnam emphasised the value of VIATT’s three-sector format, which integrates apparel fabrics, home textiles, and textile technologies into one platform—enabling cross-sector collaboration and new business opportunities.

Innovation and sustainability shape the textile industry’s future

A key theme at VIATT 2026 was the shift toward sustainable and smart manufacturing. The introduction of the Textile Chemicals & Dyes Zone underscored the importance of chemical innovation in textile production.

Industry experts highlighted the growing role of digital transformation, including 3D design, AI-assisted development, and virtual collaboration tools. These technologies are helping companies reduce waste, shorten lead times, and improve cost efficiency—critical factors for sustainable growth.

The ASEAN region, in particular, is emerging not just as a manufacturing base, but as an innovation hub for textiles, where sustainability and technology intersect.

Strong buyer participation and global sourcing activity

The fair hosted 10 buyer delegations from eight countries and regions, alongside VIP buyers from globally recognised brands including Adidas, GAP, and Lululemon.

Visitors emphasised the importance of VIATT in providing visibility across the entire supply chain—from yarn and fabrics to finished garments—supporting better sourcing decisions and improved traceability.

International buyers also highlighted Vietnam’s transition toward higher-quality, differentiated materials, making it an increasingly attractive sourcing destination.

Fringe programme delivers insights and trend intelligence

Beyond the exhibition floor, VIATT 2026 featured an expanded fringe programme designed to educate and inspire industry stakeholders.

Key highlights included:

  • The inaugural Trend Forum
  • Vietnam Textile & Garment Industry Development Strategy Summit (VTGIS)
