During a press conference held at ITMA ASIA + CITME 2024, the world textile machinery exhibition, last October 15 in Shanghai, ACIMIT, the Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers, presented CLIMA (Committed to Low Impact Machinery), the new green certification applied to Italian textile machinery. CLIMA will replace Green Label, the previous certification, created by ACIMIT back in 2011.
ACIMIT President Marco Salvadè stated: “ The core of ACIMIT’s Sustainable Technologies project has been the Green Label since its inception. This certification, which identifies the energy and environmental performance of each machine and makes them easily recognizable and understandable, has represented a turning point for our sector, demonstrating the commitment of Italian manufacturers to sustainability” . A commitment shared by over 50 companies adhering to the initiative and which materializes in savings in carbon dioxide emissions, as certified by a survey of certifications produced between 2016 and 2023. The CO2 emissions avoided by using machinery certified with the Green Label have been quantified at 1.2 million equivalent tons of carbon dioxide, corresponding to more than 221 thousand cars that travel an average of 35 thousand km in a year.
“ Now, however, it is necessary to take note of the changes imposed by international authorities, first and foremost those of the European Union, continues Salvadè. Thus, to harmonize the previous green certification of ACIMIT, namely the Green Label, with the European regulations provided for by the new directive “Empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and through better information” we have thought of a new certification, CLIMA” .
The Association’s objective is to offer its member companies, adhering to the initiative, an updated tool that complies with its own statement of transparency and commitment to sustainability, guaranteeing clarity, exhaustiveness and validity of the statements regarding the energy and/or environmental performance of their machinery.
ACIMIT, together with RINA, the international certification body, have thus presented an updated “Project Implementation Regulation”, new verification and control procedures for compliance with the procedures signed, and the new brand, CLIMA – Committed to Low Impact Machinery. The companies adhering to the initiative will thus be able to be recognized as representatives of the collective commitment of the Italian textile machinery sector to reduce the environmental impact of the processes performed through their technologies.
