With the Uniscan M-II measuring frame, Mahlo GmbH + Co. KG, known worldwide for its measuring and control technology, is expanding its portfolio in the field of quality measuring systems.
The further development of the proven predecessor model combines state-of-the- art sensor technology with an optimised design that enables even more efficient and flexible use. The lighter construction, improved accessibility and new mounting options are particularly noteworthy. The system is available since March 2025 and is suitable for material widths of up to 4,000 mm.
Basis weight, moisture or thickness are important parameters in industrial production. The modular eb gauging system Qualiscan QMS from Mahlo records these values on fabric webs during ongoing production. The Uniscan measuring frames enable one-sided measurement in different production environments. „With the further development of the Uniscan M-II scanner, we can now respond even better to the requirements of our customers,“ says Matthias Wulbeck, Product Manager QMS at Mahlo.
More flexibility for individual measurement requirements
Modifications to the design make the measuring frame even more flexible to use. The Uniscan M-II is lighter than its sister models Uniscan S or Uniscan M. This simplifies installation and handling. „In addition, the frame can now also be mounted in a suspended position thanks to modified side parts,“ explains Wulbeck. This guarantees greater flexibility, especially where space is limited. The same applies to the various mounting options for sensors: customers can now choose between an upper, lower or swivelling bracket as well as a roller mounting variant. This means that the Uniscan M-II bridge can be optimally adapted to different production conditions and applications.
The Uniscan M-II can accommodate fabric widths of up to four metres and up to three sensors can be integrated into the measuring frame. The model is mainly used in the film, paper or coating & converting sector for reflective measurements with near-infrared or white light interference methods. A typical application example is, for example, determining the basis weight of aqueous adhesives applied to paper or film. One-sided thickness measurement with laser or light shading is also possible.
Improved accessibility and safety
In addition to the technological advancements, the design has been consistently optimised for user- friendliness and safety. A new arrangement of the operating elements directly in the side panels makes it even easier to access important control functions. New side safety plates also provide additional protection during production.
However, the new model not only simplifies processes for the customer, but also for the machine manufacturer itself. „We use the same components for the Uniscan M-II as for the Webpro measuring frame series.“ This allows synergy effects to be utilised when procuring parts. Ultimately, more efficient production also has a positive effect on the end customer.
With the new concept, Mahlo has created a lighter and therefore more flexible version of the Uniscan measuring frame by further developing the design. Depending on demand, further models in the series with larger fabric widths could follow. „With Uniscan M-II, our customers benefit from a more flexible and efficient solution that is also even easier to use,“ says Wulbeck.
The Uniscan M-II measuring frame is available since March 2025. Interested customers can find out more about the benefits of the new system at upcoming trade fairs and directly from the machine manufacturer.
