Comprehensive textile policy on anvil

Federal Minister for Textile Industry Chaudhry Mushtaq Ali Cheema has said that a comprehensive and stable textile policy is on the anvil to address the prevailing crisis in the industry. For this purpose, newly tasked textile Strategy Subcommittee was undertaking detailed discussions with stakeholder’s at all important textile centers of the country.

He said the Textile Ministry had played a pivotal role in identifying and resolving the core issues at the earliest. Explaining the previous experience of delayed government actions, he said that crisis in spinning sector started in early nineties and government took almost 10 years to take necessary remedial measures in the absence of this Ministry.

Textile sector was hit by a series of issues in quota phase out regime. However, the Ministry of Textile Industry took timely measures to avert one after another crisis by quickly responding to the demands and needs of this vital sector of national economy.

He also mentioned a package of Rs40 billion and said that its tricking effects would start delivering at the grass root level within next couple of months. The Government had done its best and now private sector should take measures to improve its efficiency and restore the much-needed economic dynamism in this sector.
