Strategy for achieving Cotton Vision-2010
Under a contingency plan to combat Cotton Leave Curl Virus (CLCV), the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL) is pursuing a three pronged strategy for achieving Cotton Vision-2010. The CLCV, a major threat to the crop since the last decade, is expected to be the major challenge to a booming economy, if not controlled by proper means, said Cotton Commissioner Dr. Masood Amjad Rana.
As a first step, MINFAL constituted a group of five cotton experts to visit Cotton National Variety Trial (CNVT) at CCRI, Multan, Nibge, Niab and Cotton Institure, Faisalabad for identigying two CLCV resistant gene from cotton wild species into high yielding cotton varieties, has been directed to release the viral resistant varieties on commercial scale.
