The exports of bed sheets are still facing a decline and the sector would face a hard time in the coming months if the Government does not take serious view of their demands for meeting international competition, said Pakistan Bed wear Exporters Association (PBEA), Chairman Shabir Ahmed.
He said during July-June 2007, the bed wear exports stood around 365,232 tonnes while during the same period last year the exports were 375,175 tonnes, thus a decline of 2.65% was witnessed in July-June 2007.
He said investment in the bed wear sector was at a standstill and competition was miles ahead with the vision, scope and size. Expansion of European Union has resulted in a shift of bed wear industry to Eastern Europe with its cheap land and labour and close proximity ensuring delivery by trucking within three days.
Mr Ahmed said China and India were very strong and we should focus on our value added items, while Indonesia was the other leading exporter. India and China through their sheer size have positioned themselves as international giants with brands, international supply chains and subsidies.
India would give a tough competition to Pakistan exports as Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry has given an export package comprising of enhanced Duty Entitlement Passbook Scheme (DEPB) rates to help Indian exporters who recently suffered due to a rising rupee.

This year sees the 50th anniversary of the world-famous USTER® STATISTICS quality benchmarking data for textile fibers and yarns. ..

This year sees the 50th anniversary of the world-famous USTER® STATISTICS quality benchmarking data for textile fibers and yarns. To mark the occasion, Uster Technologies is to issue a special printed edition of the 2007 STATISTICS, in book format, as well as the CD version.
USTER® STATISTICS is today acknowledged throughout the global textile industry as THE essential tool for comparing key parameters along the entire yarn production chain, from raw fiber through sliver and roving to the final yarn, and Uster Technologies will celebrate its success at the forthcoming ITMA exhibition.
The USTER® STATISTICS program has a pedigree dating back to 1948, when the first evenness tester for yarns was introduced in spinning mills. This laboratory system enabled the mass variations of yarns to be recorded, via paper printouts. Soon, however, USTER® noted a demand from spinning mill quality managers for a method allowing statistical calculation of evenness – to provide the basic data for a quality management system that would help control and improve yarn characteristics.
For this purpose an analog computer was developed, and this was later enhanced by the addition of a counting system for thin places, thick places and neps. By 1955, the addition of a Spectrograph for the determination of periodic faults in yarns meant that Uster Technologies was able to offer a complete laboratory evaluation system. At the same time, mill owners and spinning managers had been asking Uster Technologies to devise a method of benchmarking yarn characteristics such as evenness, thin places, thick places and neps, to enable them to compare their own mill quality data with those of other producers worldwide.
In response to these demands, Uster Technologies introduced the first USTER® STATISTICS in 1957. This statistical data for yarns was first published by the German textile journal ‘Melliand’, with subsequent editions being printed as part of the USTER® NEWS BULLETIN series – becoming, over the years, the most authoritative guide to yarn quality parameters.
Ongoing developments by Uster Technologies have seen several innovations in the range of instruments and sensors for spinning mills, widening still further the range of quality characteristics covered, and these new possibilities are reflected by benchmarking figures in USTER® STATISTICS, as follows:

Quality characteristics for cotton fibers.

Changes in fiber properties within the entire spinning process.

Quality characteristics of slivers, rovings and yarns.

Relationships between fiber and yarn characteristics.

Today, USTER® STATISTICS provide benchmarks for seven laboratory systems, and at their 50th anniversary are recognized more than ever as an indispensable tool for mill owners, managers and technologists along the entire textile chain.

Trützschler GmbH & Co. ..

Trützschler GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, recently supplied a blowroom and seven TC 03 cards to India-based Fertichem Cotspin’s new facility for ring-spun denim yarn production.

The new machinery has almost doubled Fertichem’s production capacity for ring-spun and open-end yarns, and has increased the company’s number of Trützschler cards to 20. The most recent order was based upon Fertichem’s success with two TC 03 cards installed in its open yarn production unit in 2005; as well as with Trützschler DK 803, DK 903 and DK 780 cards installed over the last eight years.

Fertichem plans to order three more TC 03 cards later this year, along with an additional 7,200 spindles, which will increase its combined spin yarn design capacity to 20 tons per day — 42 metric tons per day total for open-end and ring-spun yarns.

Fertichem’s customers include such India-based companies as Ashima, Raymond Uco Denim and Arvind Mills.

The Trützschler Group is active in the field of spinning preparation equipment, clothings (Trützschler Card Clothing) and machines for the nonwovens industry (ERKO Trützschler and Fleissner). Trützschler GmbH & Co. KG, founded in 1888, specializes in machines for spinning preparation.

At ITMA fair in Munich, Trützschler will show again improved and further developed products. From the successful TC 03 card, they have developed two types, based on the main uses:The card for combing mills, and the card for high production applications.

Complimentary to draw frame TD 03, they will exhibit a new non-regulated drawframe. It is an all-out new design, space saving, and with hitherto unmatched efficiency for all application areas in the spinning mill. Trutzschler will present in Munich for the first time a new machine for detection and extraction of foreign parts in cotton. Trützschler will present at Hall A4 Booth-No. 321/ 412.

The favorable investment climate in the textile industry improved still further during the first half of 2007. ..

The favorable investment climate in the textile industry improved still further during the first half of 2007. Yarn producers in Asia continued to invest heavily in expanding and modernizing their spinning mill capacities. Apart from export trading with Europe and North America, the main reason for this expansion is a steeply rising demand for textiles in the Asian countries. This goes hand in hand with higher textile quality demands, requiring better quality yarns that can only be produced on modern spinning machines.
Asia is clearly the primary growth driver, partially supported by local business incentive plans. Moreover the upswing in Asia is broadly based: apart from India and China, various other Asian countries are increasingly investing in new spinning mills and the modernization of existing ones.
The biggest orders were received from Turkey, India, China and Indonesia, whereby order intake from Turkey more than doubled the mid-year 2006 figure. Thanks to Rieter’s innovative product offering, these orders were mainly in the core business of staple fiber machinery and related components. There was also a significant increase in orders received for nonwovens machinery.
Rieter will continue to extend production in India and China. During the period under review this already commenced in India by expanding the existing plant in Pune with new production and assembly capacities.
Due to the high volume of orders received, most units of the Textile Systems division will enjoy a full workload well into the second half of 2008. For 2007 Rieter Textile Systems expects to improve further on the good prior-year sales and also to significantly exceed the 2006 operating result.

Rieter Group orders received in the first half of 2007 rose by 12% to 2,297.7 million CHF (in local currencies and adjusted for divestiture of the man-made fiber business in 2006). ..

Rieter Group orders received in the first half of 2007 rose by 12% to 2,297.7 million CHF (in local currencies and adjusted for divestiture of the man-made fiber business in 2006). Group sales adjusted for divestitures and currency effects increased by 9% to 1 920.1 million CHF, thereby setting a new mid-year record. The Rieter Group operating result before interest and taxes rose by 16% to 135.8 million CHF (116.8 million CHF in 2006), and net profit by 42% to 116.7 million CHF (82.1 million CHF in 2006). Earnings per share increased by 40% to 26.40 CHF (18.82 CHF in 2006).
The Rieter Group continued its profitable growth during the first half of 2007. Thanks to the favorable investment climate in the Asian textile industry, and higher market shares among the automobile producers in Western Europe and North America, sales reached a new record level. New records were also set by the operating result and net profit.
Orders received, adjusted for divestiture of the manmade fiber business in 2006, rose in local currencies by 12 percent to 2 297.7 million CHF (2 024.0 million CHF in 2006).
The Textile Systems division took full advantage of favorable market conditions to realize for the first time a half-year order intake of more than one billion CHF. Sales adjusted for divestitures and currency effects rose by 9% and nominally by 8% to 1 920.1 million CHF (1 771.6 million CHF in 2006), almost exclusively due to organic growth.
Rieter’s operating result before interest and taxes rose by 16 % to 135.8 million CHF (1 16.8 million CHF in 2006), equivalent to 7.2 % of corporate output (6.7 % in 2006). This improvement is attributable to the Textile Systems division’s good operating performance. In the context of a challenging automobile industry, Automotive Systems recorded a decline in the operating result. This was also due to higher costs in connection with new start-ups and production relocations in England.
