46th Dornbirn Man-made Fibers Congress to provide a peep into Textile

From 19th to 21th September 2007 Dornbirn will be the host for more than 600 experts from the textile industry. More than 80 experts from industry and research will present the latest innovations and trends from the world of man-made fibers. The DORNBIRN MAN-MADE FIBERS CONGRESS is the lead event of the textile industry and complies fully with the claim: Communicating with the Textile Future.
Directly after ITMA Munich with the special topic “Impact of ITMA on fiber technology”
A lot of inquiries have been received at this early stage for the 2007 congress. Many visitors of ITMA Munich seem to use the opportunity of exchanging information about innovations in the field of man-made fibers at the 46th DORNBIRN MAN-MADE FIBERS CONGRESS. The topic IMPACT OF ITMA ON FIBER TECHNOLOGIES is dedicated to an overview of research institutes and international fiber producers on the interaction, required properties and the subsequent influence on fiber developments.
Plenary lectures held from renown experts on opening day
The opening day 19th September 2007 foresees PLENARY LECTURES from CIRFS about the challenges of globalisation and development strategies for the European man-made fibers industry. Another lecture from CCFA/China is dealing with the developments and future perspectives of the Chinese man-made fibers industry. Further papers from Great Britain on the development of the global market of fiber and textile machinery as well as on transportation and moblility of persons and goods will round up the morning of the opening day.
New developments in fibers
Following the tradition papers on NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN FIBERS will be presented by international experts from industry and research. To name a few the topics will cover: nanotube reinforced polyetheylen fibers, PVDF yarns, new developments in PET, PTFE-PA copolymers for fibers, heat generating fibers, bicomponent yarns, monofilaments for automotive composites, environmentally friendly regenerated cellulosics, photocatalytic active fibers, bicomponent fibers with improved surface properties, hybrid yarns for innovative light-weight products, cellulose multi-component fibers, the new textile fiber polyetherimide, electroconductive fibers etc. Speakers are coming from 3 continents; all multinational fiber manufacturers and research institutes from Europe and overseas are represented with papers.Following the tradition papers on NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN FIBERS will be presented by international experts from industry and research. New functionalities through spin finishes & surface modification
Another main theme will deal with NEW FUNCTIONALITIES THROUGH SPIN FINISHES AND SURFACE MODIFICATION. The opening speech will give an overview about the importance of nanotechnology for the functionalization of textile materials, followed by numerous papers of renown companies on a multitude of practical end-uses. Findings from academic basic research will complement the lectures.
Man-made fibers and textiles for transportation
The main theme MAN-MADE FIBERS AND TEXTILES FOR TRANSPORTATION presents developments and trends for the use of man-made fibers in aviation, automotive, railways/shipping. The introduction papers will present market developments and requirements of textiles and fibers in automotive (USA/EU), new developments in airbags, tailored textile composites for mobility applications. Special attention is paid to comparisons between European/American/Asian requirements. Well-known names from lead-companies and their suppliers will make this topic a further highlight.
Condensed carpet theme
Replacing the biannual INTERCARPET the main theme is CARPETS. The presentations will show the future developments of the European/American carpet market, fiber and product developments and applications for instance in automotives.
Protective textiles in their widespread applications
The vast variety of the meaning PROTECTIVE TEXTILES and the requirements of different applications is illustrated in this main theme. Lectures on protective garments for maritime rescue, police, fire brigades, military, surgical end-uses, workwear, sports and leisure and end-use specific functionalities like antistatic properties, filtration and membranes, non inflammability, wear comfort etc. Results of life-cycle analyses of operational wear, washing requirements and non inflammable additives complete this section.
Fiber driven projects in the EU/US – technology platforms for textiles
This main theme is of particular importance. The long term vision of the EU and the objectives until 2015 are illustrated with examples of successful implementations. The concerted interaction between commercial companies and targeted academic research and the financial support of such projects is shown. In a similar way the US activities will be presented.
The next ITM exhibition in Turkey is shifted to May 2009
The history of ITM exhibitions traces back to BUR-TEX 2002 trade fair held in Bursa (Turkey) in 2002 and the concept to organize ITM exhibitions was taken during 2002. Consequently, the first edition of ITM exhibitions was held on 1-6 June 2004 proving itself as a trademark exhibition of Turkey. The second edition of ITM 2006 was held on 27 June – 02 July 2006. Scheduled to be organized every two years, ITM exhibitions next edition was supposed to be held in 2008.
Other textile machinery trade fair organizers have changed their dates to keep up with the changing market scanarios; Teknik Ltd has also changed the date of the next ITM exhibition and shifted it to May 2009 after negotiations with leading textile machinery manufacturers. ITM exhibitions’ concept is to be a technology show and in order to preserve its concept and status our decision to shift the dates of our exhibition is the best way as after ITMA 2007 Munich it is not possible to observe new technologies in 8 months time. According to the organizers, Teknik Ltd after observing the developments in textile industry both via its publications and experiences, had taken this decision for the benefit textile of the textile industry.
