Pak-Japan Business Dialog meeting in Karachi

“The Pakistan-Japan Joint Business Dialog on January 22 between Pakistan Japan Business Forum and Japan Pakistan Business Cooperation Committee focused on enhancing Japanese investment in Pakistan in the coming years and deliberated on identifying ways to increase exports from Pakistan. More importantly, the dialog considered imperative issues such as infrastructure, information technology, textiles, automotive industry, and Japanese assistance in training and skills upgradation of human resources.” This was disclosed by Abdul Kader Jaffer, President of PJBF in a press release issued in Karachi.

Mr Jaffer further added that Mr Tohru Tsuji, Chairman of Marubeni Corporation and Chairman of JPBCC is leading a strong Japanese delegation for this event and also the Government-Business Joint Dialog in Islamabad scheduled for January 23. He said that the Japanese Parliamentary Secretary for Economy, Trade and Industry, Michiyo Takagi, is also attending the Dialog alongwith the Japanese Ambassador and Consul General.

The former Pakistani High Commissioner to UK also informed that the keynote address in Karachi would be given by Dr Ishrat Hussain, Chairman National Commission for Government Reforms and former Governor of State Bank of Pakistan. Leading industrialists and economists such as former APTMA Chairman Bashir Alimuhammad, President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Majyd Aziz, ex-Chairman of PAAPAM Sohail P Ahmed, Director General of JETRO H. Miyakawa, Managing Director of YKK Ltd Kosuke Miimi, IT expert Muhammad Ovais, and Member of Planning Commission Asad Ali Shah would present papers on various issues.
The PJBF Chief moreover said that like the previous two Joint Dialogs, the heads of PJBF and JPBCC would sign a Joint Declaration that would be a guideline for future bilateral economic activities to be undertaken by the private sector in the coming years. He was of the opinion that this year’s Dialog would be comprehensive, pragmatic and would address issues with long term commitments and cooperation.

Wuxi New World International Textiles and Garment Market

The largest textiles and garment market in the world – Wuxi New World International Textiles and Garment Market will open for business on March 28, 2007. The market, which costs an investment of RMB 4 billion yuan, has a building area of 1.3 million meters, the largest in the world. It offers a one-stop sourcing platform for buyers.
It is said that up to now more than 7,000 domestic producers, including many leading brands have entered into the market.

Meanwhile, many foreign brands are also interested in the market. The first batch of more than 70 well-known fashion brands from the United States will soon start their business in this market and 19 Korean companies has signed agreements with the market.

Statistics show that up to now, brands from 16 countries and regions have announced their residence in the market. Foreign brands are expected to top 2,000.
