Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Donation to  H.E.J. Research Institute Karachi

On the 10th of January 2007 the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Karachi, Mr. Hans-Joachim Kiderlen handed over a cheque of Euros 19,200/- (equivalent to Rs.1,537,920/-)  to Dr. Muhammad Kamran Azim, Assistant Professor, Biochemistry & Bioinformatics, H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Centre of Chemical Sciences.

A small ceremony headed by Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary was held to mark the occasion. Other professors of the institute were also present.

The donation has been made for the purpose of procuring a special spectrometer. Spectrometers are instruments widely used in analytical chemistry laboratories. They help in determining the amount, properties, structures etc. of chemical components with the help of visible and invisible light.

The International Center for Chemical Sciences does research on chemical components (molecules) originating from natural sources such as animals, plants, bacteria etc. and spectrometers are required to characterize these molecules.

The donation was made by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation out of funds that it reserves for its scholars.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a non-profit foundation established by the Federal Republic of Germany for the promotion of international research cooperation. It enables highly qualified scholars not resident in Germany to spend extended periods of research in Germany and promotes the ensuing academic contacts.

The Humboldt Foundation promotes an active world-wide network of scholars. Individual sponsorship during periods spent in Germany and longstanding follow-up contacts have been hallmarks of the foundation’s work since 1953.

Conditioning of dyed yarns - Welker machines

Significant numbers of spinning plants already use the conditioning to compensate the weight losses during the spinning process. In the dyeing plants, however, the conditioning is even more important because the moisture losses are more significant than in spinning.

The quality demands of customers are the same as in spinning, notably in circular knitting and in weaving.

Therefore, all advantages in strength, elongation and dust reduction are also relevant for dyed yarns.
