Cotton exchange ties with Egypt (Brazil)

 

Brazil and Egypt may expand business in textile sector by exchanging different kinds of cotton produced in respective countries. In this connection, a seminar was organized at Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT), in Sao Paulo to enhance sales of Egyptian long staple and extra long staple to Brazil and to increases export of Brazil’s medium staple cotton to Egypt as Egypt does not produce medium and short staple cotton.

Brazil imports Egyptian raw materials but Brazilian cotton is not exported to Arab countries. Brazil’s cotton imports soared 132% to US $2.43 million from Egypt while cotton thread imports grew 37.8% to $1.5 million in the first half this year, informed Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), Haroldo Rodrigues Cunha.

Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Secretary General, Michel Alaby who participated in the seminar stated that Egypt and Mercosur countries including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay should strengthen trade ties as textile industry of Egypt is much developed and has the potential to offer huge growth opportunities.
