Imports of used textile machinery from Europe and USA (India)

Europe and the United States are putting in efforts to sell their second-hand spinning and weaving machines to Indian textile companies.

Textile units from Coimbatore region are mulling over buying second-hand ring spinning frames of European textile industry which have closed down due to abolition of textile quota system.

Higher production in spinning, weaving and processing by region’s textile units is suffering due to delay in supply of machinery from indigenous manufacturers, which at times extends up to 2-3 years. Many textile units plan to import used spinning frames from Europe and the US, said K Selvaraju, Secretary, Southern India Mills Association.
South India Small Spinners Association requested Union Textile Ministry to permit import of 10 year old second-hand spinning machinery under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). TUFS allowed imports of weaving machinery but no clear guidelines were available for importing used spinning machinery.
