Cotton industry recovers (Italy)
Textile industry had been witnessing sluggish business for over a long time, showing slight signs of improvement in past six months. However, apparel sector has provided the much needed boost to cotton industry, with production soaring almost 32% in October 2006 year-on-year levels. While monthly cotton yarn output reached Index 72.6 on 2000=100, representing 4% growth as compared to the same month last year, weaving production registered 3.3% rise. Cotton consumption has also recovered and attracted steadily rising demand over past several months.
