Ancient textile tradition inspires artists (Iceland)
In today’s world many artists are inspired by ancient textile tradition. They make their paintings based on traditional needlework and handicraft.
Hildur Bjarnadóttir is an artist from Iceland who always got inspired from ancient textile works. She utilises canvases which are woven by her and it expresses historical meaning for her artwork.
Her latest work was about theories on the male viewpoint of art history. Although her art work appears to be monochrome or canvases painted in bright colours, on closer look it appears that each painting is based on an ancient textile tradition.
