1.  The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is working actively on a new textile package to enhance textile exports. Addressing a reception at Faisalabad Dry Port Trust, newly-elected Punjab Assembly member Farrukh Habib said that work on the textile package was in the final stage and would be announced shortly.

2.  Textile is the major export-oriented industry of Pakistan but the country needs to enhance the potential in other sectors as well, said Hans-Olaf Henkel, head of a six-member delegation of the European Conservative and Reformists Group of Parliamentarians.

3.  Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Council of All Pakistan Textile Associations said  Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of cotton with the third largest spinning capacity in Asia after China and India and contributes 5% to the global spinning capacity.

4.  Pakistan textile sector contributes 57% to the country’s exports. The textile industry is the second largest employment sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is the 8th largest exporter of textile commodities in Asia and the textile sector contributes 8.5% to the GDP of Pakistan, said an official of the Ministry of Textile.

5.  Analyst Ahmed Lakhani at JS Global Capital said due to weak global demand, the nation’s exporters were unable to boost margins significantly as a result of the depreciation of the local currency and had to pass on the benefits to their foreign customers.

6.  As many as twelve Pakistani textile companies showcased their products at Texworld, a bi-annual international textile exhibition, and received a positive response from the audiences.

7.  The textile exports rose around 9% to US$ 13.53 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30 as financial incentives improved the competitiveness of the key export-oriented sector. Textile exports amounted to US$ 12.45 billion in the last fiscal year of 2016-17.

8.  Pakistan exported about 21.44 dozen of knitwear worth US$ 488.815 million in first two months of the current financial year as compared to the exports of 16.992 million dozens worth US$ 439.224 million in the corresponding period of last year.

10.  Globally, Pakistan’s top four exports are home textiles (US$ 3.95 billion), cotton fabrics (US$ 3.49 billion), knitted garments (US$ 2.51 billion) and woven garments (US$ 2.46 billion).
