Decline in Bed wear exports
Exporters reported a $65.541 million decline in the bed wear
export during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as a
result of regression in overall textile sector due to high cost
of production and absence of Government support to this sector.
They said that despite several rounds of negotiations with
the Federal Ministry for the resolution of problems of bed-wear
sector, but the Government continued its policies, which had
proved failure. Local exporters are confronted with its regional
competitors in the world markets without any substantial support
from the Government, whereas India and Bangladesh have flooded
the markets with their products on comparatively lower prices.
During the first three months (July-September) of the current
fiscal year, the country's export of bed-wear items were
$458.489 million as compared to $524.030 million in the same
period last, denoting a slump of $65.541 million or 13%.
In the world markets, exporters maintained that India and
Bangladesh besides China had earned billion of dollars through
export of bed-wear products, annually.
The Government should pay keen attention toward this sector
and also other textile sectors; exporters demanded that export
loans from banks should also be made easy to them so that they
could continue their businesses with already planned schedules.
