Emergency affects textile exports

Chairman Pakistan Knitwear and Sweaters Exporters Association (PAKSEA), Shahzad Azam Khan has said although the state of emergency has led to the situation of political stability in the country, but the export trade and allied businesses have experienced set back.

Owing to travel advisories from some countries and a cautious attitude of overseas importers, customers are reluctant to visit Pakistan; the Chairman said adding this situation has adversely affected the textile export sector in particular because a lot many steps in textile export have to be monitored by overseas buyers themselves or their representatives.

The accumulating financial cost on export consignments due to delayed shipments has caused the exporters financial losses. He urged the Government to rescue the exporters by giving them relief on interest, financial costs and taxation components. He also demanded the Government to waive off the mark-up and taxes at least for the period of emergency so that its negative impact on export trade could be addressed.
