Expo - China International Trade Fair for Fibres and Yarns
Yarn Expo 2007 show has become an important niche event in China for fibres and
yarns. For its first time as an independent trade event, Yarn Expo attracted
3,700 visitors from 59 countries and regions, including 20% from outside
Mainland China, proving itself a key tool for the Chinese yarn and fibre
industry. The show ran 29 - 31 October 2007 at the Shanghai International
Convention Centre. Many more buyers also came from the concurrent textile event
Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Textiles, which Yarn Expo had joined for the past
two years. exhibitors from Pakistan include, Alam Cotton Mills (Pvt) Ltd, Amin
Textile Mills and C.A Textile Mills ( Pvt ) Ltd.
The show featured a full range of natural, synthetic, regenerated, blended and
speciality fibres and yarns for woven and knitted fabrics. Exhibition space -
3,000 sqm - was double that of the year before and approximately 90 exhibitors
attended, a 32% increase. The proportion of exhibitors that came from outside
China also grew this year - up 58% over 2006. Suppliers came from China, France,
Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Pakistan, Singapore and the USA.

Many suppliers also appreciated the specific focus. The markets in China are
facing tremendous growth and Yarn Expo is a great platform for us to meet local
buyers. Yarn Expo is the key platform in the industry to exchange market
information and the right place for us to be promoting ourselves because it
specializes in yarn products."
Indian suppliers made up the largest non-Chinese group - seven companies were
organized by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council of India. Cotton is
one of China's most heavily demanded imports. Mr Nrupen Shah, with Kikani
Exports from India said he met more trade buyers than expected. "Many buyers
were interested in our high-quality products. We will definitely come again."
Many buyers were interested in flax, to meet demand for linen, as well as
organic products and those derived from alternative sources such as milk protein
and bamboo. This show also targets a very specific group of buyers - visitors
who attend are looking for specialized textile materials and this makes it
easier for us to sell our specialized products."
Other popular products included speciality man-made fibres and metal fibres. "We
manufacture stainless steel threads which can be used in cotton and knitting
fabric to protect against radiation. Metal threads have been very popular for
years in Europe. For China, the market has just started to grow and we can see
lots of opportunities here. This is why we want to exhibit in this show, because
it's a good platform for us to promote our business," said Mr. Li Guo Liang,
General Manager, Suqian Weisheng Metal Products, China.
Yarn Expo is held twice a year. The next spring event will be held 27 - 29 March
2008 at the China World Trade Centre, followed by the autumn show on 21 - 23
October 2008.
