Gujarat to encourage technical textiles
Mr. R J Shah, Gujarat Chief Principal Industrial Advisor, while addressing the
two-day conference ‘Texcellence 07’, announced that the State Government has
launched various incentive schemes for the promotion of technical textiles in
the state. Under the scheme, credit linked 10% capital subsidy is offered for
plant and machinery for technical and industrial sector projects.
All small, medium and large enterprises are eligible to avail this facility.
This system is applicable both for existing units for expansion as well as
up-gradation or for a new unit operating in the technical textile field. The
scheme is valid for a period of five years.
Textile sector of Gujarat which includes cotton production, ginning and
pressing, spinning, weaving, processing, apparel production, fashion design,
trading and exports contributes 14% share of the Indian textile industry. The
Gujarat Government has also provided assistance to Ahmedabad Textile Industry's
Research Association (ATIRA) and Man-made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA)
to become centers of excellence in technical textiles.
