Public-private partnership model to train workers

The Textile Ministry is considering a project on public-private partnership model to train workers at shop floor, supervisory and managerial levels in the apparel and textile segments to overcome shortage of labour. This was one of the main concerns of the industry.

The country had several textile clusters (geographical), and each cluster had its own set of infrastructure needs. A textile territorial investment and production complex could be created for each cluster which will cover the entire cluster area.

The infrastructure needs of every cluster would be found out and the production complex will be created based on the public-private partnership model. This is in addition to the existing programs such as the Technology Up-gradation Fund Scheme and the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks.

The Textile Commissioner, J. N. Singh, said the Ministry was also considering a technology mission for technical textiles on the lines of the technology mission for cotton. It would have four mini missions for raw material, research and development, human resource development and market development.
