ASEAN countries fear expiry of Chinese quota limits

Experts believe that if the US plans to cancel quota limit on Chinese textile products, trade of other countries will be seriously hampered. Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia and other ASEAN countries are benefited from quota limit imposed on China and these countries fear that their clothing orders from America will plunge after the removal of quota.

When America imposed quota on Chinese clothing products in 2005, many multinational clothing enterprises from the US started looking for low cost clothing suppliers like Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand. However, China still remained the biggest clothing supplier of America and statistics show that in 2006, Chinese apparel exports accounted for 28% of American clothing import.
