Novelties at ITMA 07 (Part II)

For the first time in Munich - ITMA Europe, the international textile machinery trade fair held during September 13-20, 2007, featured in addition to the interesting location, many innovations focusing on high performance, quality and lower production costs. Many exhibitors and visitors described ITMA 07 as the best ITMA Europe to date. 1,450 exhibitors welcomed 118 000 visitors from 149 countries. Never before in the history of this event, which goes back more than 50 years, have there been so many visitors from so many different countries. Germany headed the ranking for visitor numbers, followed by Italy, India, Turkey, Brazil, France, Switzerland, Spain, Iran and Belgium.

Paul Heller

According to Paul Heller GmbH - a Wuppertal, Germany based company, “ITMA 2007 in Munich met our expectations, and we had many Asian visitors at our booth. We were also surprised that the number of Pakistan visitors was more than expected, and those Pakistan visitors at our booth were very competent and skilled in their sectors, and we were able to discuss their problems and also new products on a high level. For qualified inquiries, we had our Pakistan agent Nazer & Company at our booth, which was very helpful in getting successful new business connections. “

The key products which we exhibited were well known high quality ROLLTEX® Roller Coverings which are used by leading OEM companies, such as Picanol, Sulzer and Dornier. Among our new products, for example “S210” or “PU” ROLLTEX® Roller Coverings with different surfaces offers a very good resistance against abrasion and most chemicals which are used in the textile sector.

Andritz Küsters presence in the Nonwovens Hall proved to be a great success

Andritz Küsters presented a wide range of their products at the ITMA 2007 in Munich: together with the most recent developments in the area of textile calenders (teXcal s-roll technology with a maximum line force of 400 N/mm). Besides this, the enterprise from Krefeld also focused on the wet finishing for nonwovens.

“Our international public were as multifaceted as our exhibits”, says a pleased Andreas Lukas, Vice President Andritz Küsters Nonwoven. “In spite of the location of our booth in the Nonwovens Halls many textile calender customers found their way to us. In the meantime, a couple of the numerous enquiries have already resulted in firm orders.”

Just as pleasing was the high degree of acceptance of the ITMA Fair by the nonwovens industry: about half the number of visitors at the Andritz Küsters booth were nonwovens manufacturers. The new nonwovens padder neXchem with a production speed of 200 m/min and higher proved to be real eye catcher. By the way, all those interested in finishing own products with the neXchem: the exhibit will be available at the STFI (Saxon Textile Research Institute) in Chemnitz for trials as of 2008.

“Our surprising success at this ITMA however, was the new measuring technology neXdetect”, adds Lukas. “The detection unit for stripe applications on nonwovens had apparently hit the nail on the head as far as producers of diapers from nonwovens were concerned. An initial order intake immediately after the close of the fair and almost daily enquiries confirm that our technology for reliable inline detection fills a gap that had up to now existed in the production of nonwovens for diapers.”

VSMC (KASAG) offers Caustic Soda recovery plants

Switzerland based company VSMC offers caustic soda recovery and recycling plants, self cleaning filters and plants Normally, caustic soda is used in textile mercerising is recovered and recycled to keep the drained water clean and also can be reused for mercerising.

The main problem of a caustic soda recovery plant with the system of evaporating distilled water is the huge amount of cooling water used for condensation of the vapor steam after the last stage. VSMC now offers an additional step to reduce this amount of cooling water by increasing the number of stages in the recovery plant. According to Kash International, “Other competitors process till 4 stages, VSMC is able to supply recovery plants with 5 or even 6 stages. This helps to decrease the steam consumption compare to 4-stage plant by 40% and also the cooling water by the same number”.

New technology for the cleaning of the weak lye from the solid impurities and the purification of the recovered caustic soda makes it VSMC possible to recover the weak lye from the mercerizing process of knitted goods.

In relationship with 2 textile companies in Europe VSMC developed a system for the handling of the weak lye from this mercerizing process and to clean to a point, which enables the customers to re-use the recovered caustic soda.

James H. Heal & Co. Ltd unveiled a wealth of creativity and design flair

British textile testing equipment manufacturers James H. Heal & Co. Ltd unveiled a wealth of creativity and design flair at ITMA Munich 2007.

Among the innovations displayed on the Heal’s Stand 145, in Hall A4, was TruBurst2; a fully pneumatic bursting strength tester which comfortably exceeds the exacting requirements of ISO 13938-2, ASTM D3786-06 and the test principles of many other national and international standards.

TruBurst2 comes in two models. With a maximum capacity of 1000kPa/145psi, Model 810 is suitable for the majority of textile specimens (including cyclic testing of elastomerics), as well as for many paper, board and similar materials.

However, there are many less resistant, more delicate materials (e.g. non-wovens, tissues and plastics), which require a lower capacity/higher resolution machine for successful and repeatable bursting strength tests.

With the ability to measure values as low as 5kPa/0.7psi and a maximum capacity of 100kPa/14.5psi, Model 801 is ideal for these applications.

Also on show was Gyrowash 815; an official AATCC testing instrument for evaluating the colour fastness, staining potential and durability of fabrics under accelerated wash conditions, according to AATCC Test Method 61.

Gyrowash 815 also complies with ISO 105 and conforms to the requirements of major European Retail Store Groups, including Marks and Spencer and Next. The instrument’s horizontal rotor can hold five test vessels on each of the four sides thus having a maximum capacity of 20 large (1200ml) or 20 small (500ml) vessels, or a combination of large and small.

Heal’s range of Quality Assured Consumables for colour fastness and shrinkage testing and the Healink suite of servicing, maintenance, calibration and training also featured prominently in the James H. Heal display.

Over the duration of the show, Heal’s Technical Experts met with many high profile European Retailers and also noted a large number of visitors from the South Americas and the Indian subcontinent, who came to the Heal’s stand to get valuable advice on laboratory design, appropriate tests for their products and buyers as well as suitable instrumentation and accessories to carry out these tests.

Heal’s Sales Director, Elliot Rich, commented on the exhibition: “I am delighted that we were part of ITMA Munich 2007. Represented in Pakistan by Noortex, Welker has numerous installations of several different kinds of Welker machines in Lahore and Karachi.”

At ITMA in Munich, Welker had sold COOLVAP system to Dar-es-Salam Textile Mills and Welker Rovemaster to Alliance Textiles in Karachi.

In 2006, Welker introduced the new generation of CONDIMAT and CONDIBOX with ECOTHERM technology. The ECOTHERM technology provides "fair engineering" avoiding the waste of energy and water, followed by the introduction of patented COOLVAP technology in 2007. The new COOLVAP machines are therefore, the ultimate technology in conditioning, especially when used in warm climate regions. Applying COOLVAP at the end of the cycle, customers can expect results far above 2.0% moisture, in some cases above 2.5%!

Rovemaster

Stripping of roving bobbins and opening of the roving ends is an important task in the spinning mills.

Existing methods like cutting the layers of roving with knives and opening them directly in the blow room leads to damage to the valuable bobbin surface and also the fibres are subjected to fatigue which affects yarn quality.

ROVEMASTER has been developed to ensure that no damage occurs to the bobbin surface and the fibres are also safely opened during the process. Rovings are removed by applying rotary movement to the bobbins and simultaneously unwinding the rovings, which then are sucked into the Venturi Opening System.
