Motexha 2008

The 30th edition of Motexha is scheduled from March 31st - April 2nd, 2008 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre. The show next year will feature competitively priced products by over 250 exhibitors coming from 25 countries.

Motexha is expected to be Middle East’s largest sourcing platform for textiles, garments, leather and fashion accessories. Banking on the recent economic boom, Dubai has secured its position as the regional textile trading hub according to a report by the Emirates Industrial Bank.

In year 2006, Dubai’s textile imports were valued at AED 13.79 billion as compared to AED 9.6 billion in the year 2002. This shows an average inc

rease of 11% over the years. The emirate witnessed an even higher surge in terms of re-exports with 13.3% growth during the period from 2002 to 2006. Valued at AED 4.22 billion in 2002, the re-export market has shown exceptional growth over the years and was valued at AED 6.87 billion in 2006.

As highlighted in our last issue, the opening of 6 million square feet Dubai Textile City will give a further boost to the textile trade in Dubai. Fabrics are mainly imported from South Korea, Japan, China, India, Indonesia and Thailand. These products are further re-exported to countries including Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, East Africa and former Soviet Union states.
