Spoerry & Co AG: Swiss Tradition and
innovation for over 130 years
Based in Flums, Switzerland, Spoerry is the world’s leading
company in the field of fine and ultra-fine yarns and
manufactures 200 different kinds of world class quality yarns.
This article is based on Yarn humidification, twist
relaxation, double conditioning and the benefits/and use of
the XO-Steaming Process by Xorella AG.
For
the Spoerry Management team, innovation alone is not enough. The
Company continuously searches for an intuitive understanding of
the way the market develops and fashion trends. According to
Spoerry “New innovative textile creations can only be developed
in close co-operation with leading fashion houses and
processors, a prerequisite for turning innovation into success.
Striving for close partnership in the textile chain all the way
to the final consumer is a logical consequence of the company’s
philosophy. In fact, without these partnerships Spoerry would
not exist today - Our co-operation with the Swiss company
XORELLA is an example of our company’s philosophy!”
SPOERRY & Co AG, a privately owned Swiss company,
has been spinning the finest cotton yarns since 1866. The company’s
extraordinary innovative power is based on 130 years of accumulated
know-how, state-of-the-art machinery and equipment as well as a highly
skilled and motivated workforce. For the Spoerry Management team,
innovation alone is not enough.
Word leader in ultra fine count spinning
Renowned
for its unique production methods and products, Spoerry is the world’s
leading company in the field of fine and ultra-fine yarns.Spoerry
manufactures more than 200 different world-class quality yarn
products. This requires a high degree of flexibility, both in the
market and with regard to fashion trends.
Swiss quality, precision, and reliability secure
SPOERRY a place under the world’s best manufacturers.
In co-operation with Rieter AG,
Spoerry helped pioneer Compact spinning process fit for production,
thus achieving a major breakthrough for the traditional ring spinning
process.
Innovative power leads to success
The innovation power of the company is manifested
in uniquely designed and engineered technical yarns such as Swiss
Shield, a yarn with a metal core of .02 mm diameter, which is
successfully used to provide a highly effective shield against
low-frequency electrical fields and high-frequency electromagnetic
rays (electro smog).
To accomplish extraordinary textile yarns,
Spoerry selects ultimate quality raw materials such as Egypt’s very
best Giza 45 ELS, and Sea Island Cotton wool. The company is also
renowned for its capability in super fine Coreyarn manufacturing.
With “Sensual Nm 250”, the cotton yarn spinning
mill produces the world’s finest elastic cotton yarn.
The NOBLETWIN brand is a new
generation of unique yarns produced with the company’s own proprietary
spinning technology, replacing conventional two-ply yarn without
compromising the supreme quality of the product.
State-of-the-art machinery and talented work
force
Spoerry operates 40,000 ring spindles with
state-of-the-art technology to master the production of small lots
within a yarn count range of Nm 50–500. The Swiss yarn producer with
its 145 uniquely talented employees has carved out a market segment,
where it successfully operates in.
Yarn conditioning, an important final step in
yarn production
Correct yarn conditioning has an important impact
on the quality improvement of cotton yarns. It has been established
that the strength and elongation properties increase with moisture
content of the yarn. This effect is explained by the fact that an
increase in the moisture content results in increased swelling of the
fiber and in addition of the increase in fiber strength and fiber
elongation values, in a higher fiber-to-fiber friction in the yarn.
This is well documented in an USTER Tensojet 4 scatter plot diagram of
conditioned versus unconditioned yarn.
Conditioning
at higher temperature also reduces the liveliness and torque in yarns,
improving the process efficiency in any subsequent process.
Spoerry recognizes the quality improvements
achieved through yarn conditioning. All yarns produced pass through a
specially designed XORELLA conditioning process.
Due to the very fine yarn counts produced with
extra fine cotton fiber, Spoerry has engineered a conditioning process
especially geared to quality improvement and consistency of treatment
for its products.
The final conditioning process is fully
automatically handled, with yarns being treated on pallets.
The unique material-handling solution enables
Spoerry to treat each pallet twice with a precise cool-down period in
between the two cycles.

1. Feeding station
2. Scale with roller section
3. Buffer zone
4. XO SELECT
5. Intermediate storage
8. Cool-down storage
7. Roller conveyors and pallet orienter
8. Transfer conveyor section
9. Labeler with auto glue station
10. Stretch wrapper
11. Final exit conveyor
