Dornbirn Man-made Fibers Congress - Communicating the Textile Future

The 47th Dornbirn Man-Made Fiber Congress will be held from 17 - 19 September 2008, Austria. This congress is the platform for the international textile industry with approx. 700 participants of over 30 countries.

Sustainability as Main Theme of the Congress

From the important future social and economic topics the following 5 megatrends will be of particular relevance to the DORNBIRN MFC:

v     the growth of population and growing prosperity.

v     new set of energy and raw material problems.

v     ecologisation of products.

v     product specialisation and differentiation.

v     shortening of product development cycle time and time to market.

The 47th DORNBIRN MFC will pay special attention to sustainability and is represented in the plenary lectures, too. The leading Austrian enterprise for the supply of electric power will report about the resources, availabilities and changes, followed by a presentation from the USA about health, safety and environmental aspects of nanotechnology. Further presentations will deal with Market Developments for Fibers (UK), EU Textile Industry – Vision for the Future (EURATEX/Brussels), The Contribution of Nonwovens to a Sustainable World (EDANA/Brussels) and Fiber Requirements from Civil Engineering (Technical University/Vienna).

Record Response to Call for Papers

The programme committee was faced with a very difficult task: Out of more than 160 high quality and innovative proposals from industry and academic research, a total of 114 (6 plenary and 108 individual lectures) had to be chosen, as they represent the maximum number of lectures in 2 ½ days in 3 halls. With 22 lectures on the topic of Developments in Fibers and 10 lectures on the topic of Sustainability this main theme will be presented throughout the whole congress, followed by 22 lectures on the topic of Safety (incl. non-inflammability), 17 on Technical Textiles (incl. Civil Engineering), 15 lectures on Sportswear (incl. elastic and bioactive) and 10 on Nonwovens, 3 presentations will deal with EU research projects.

Well-known brands will speak about the importance sustainability within their company and product philosophy.

Last Minute highlights as a new section

To meet with the dynamics of our times we have created with effect from the 47th DORNBIRN MFC onwards a section called “Last Minute Highlights”. 6 lectures can be held on brand new innovations, that have come to our knowledge after the printing of the pre-programme (March 2008), the final programme folder (June 2008) and the congress in September itself. The title of the presentation and the lecturer will be published on our homepage www.dornbirn-mfc.com.
