| 72% of exports are apparel, machinery
and chemical products
In 2007, five major industries including textiles
and apparel, machinery, equipment, apparatus and chemicals together
accounted for 72% of Hong Kong's total domestic exports, according to
statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department.
In 2007, the value of domestic exports classified
to the the wearing apparel industry by $7.3 billion or 33.6% to $14.4
billion, that for the machinery, equipment, apparatus, and components
industry by $5.4 billion or 33.2% to $10.9 billion, and that for the
textiles industry by $6.6 billion or 18.9% to $28.1 billion.
On the other hand, the value of domestic exports
classified to the chemicals and chemical products industry increased
by $1.3 billion or 14.2% over a year earlier to $10.5 billion.
These statistics of domestic exports classified
by industrial origin are derived by re-grouping the merchandise
domestic export items originally grouped under the external trade
classification system according to the industries in which these
merchandise items are normally produced.
