Import of Warp-knitted Fabric in 2007

According to a report by China Textile Leader, China’s import of warp-knitted fabric has been growing rapidly. After a slowdown in 2007, the import of warp-knitted fabric rose sharply in 2007. The latest figures from the General Administration of the Customs show that China imported about US$ 160 million worth of warp-knitted fabric in January-November 2007, rising 15.95% year-on-year.

The demand for imported warp-knitted fabric increased by 10% compared with last three years. The demand for imported synthetic fiber products is exceptionally stronger, which covers almost 90% of the total imports.

Japan is more aggressive on the high-end market. After a slight decline in 2005 and 2006, import from Japan increased remarkably in 2007, which reached US$50.38 million in January-November period. The high import price of Japanese-made warp-knitted fabric, which nearly doubles the average import price, indicates that most of the imported warp-knitted fabrics from Japan are high-end products.
