Govt seeks international help for introducing Bt cotton

Federal Government has decided to seek help from multinational breeder companies, said Dr Qadir Bux Baloch, Director Cotton, Government of Punjab, Director National Institute of Biology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE). He said, the Government has constituted a Committee in this regard to work on the introduction of Bt cotton variety in the country in collaboration with international breeders’ companies. The committee will prepare the report on the introduction of Bt cotton in Pakistan in collaboration with the international breeders’ companies like China Academy of Science, Monsanto of USA and recommend the guidelines for Bt cotton variety in Pakistan and will officially introduce the approved variety of Bt cotton in Pakistan by 2009.
